You can use the following formula:

A + B + C

A = Action verb (present tense for a current job, past tense for a previously held job)

B = Object or people

C = Where, When, How, What

For example;

  • Promoted – pet products and accessories – at trade show
  • Designed – corporate retirement plans – for client companies
  • Analysed – effectiveness – of inventory system

Another formula is:

A + B + C + D

A = Compound action verb

B = Object quantified and/or described

C = Where, When, How, What

D = Descriptor

For example;

  • Created and implemented – dBase IV mailing label programs – for direct-mail catalogue operation – of client firms
  • Demonstrated – new customer services – to sales representatives – on a weekly basis
  • Negotiated – contracts – with equipment maintenance managers – in ten foreign countries

Don’t feel confined by these formulas; they are merely guidelines for getting your words across clearly and simply.
