Work & Study Experience
Step One
Firstly, you need to consider all your work history.
At this stage, you don’t need to decide whether the information is relevant to the job or not.
Divide it into sections:
- Secondary School (work experience, volunteer work, vacation work or part-time work)
- TAFE (apprenticeships, traineeships, work experience or part-time work)
- University (cooperative placements, volunteer work, work experience, vacation work, part-time or full-time work)
- Postgraduate training (work experience, volunteer work, vacation work, full-time or part-time work)
- Jobs held between or after completing your training/education.
For each section list the following details:
- Name of training/job you undertook (what you did) Institution/Company/Organisation (where you completed it)
- Dates you studied, and dates you completed your qualifications.
- If you didn’t finish your course, still include it and just list the dates you did complete.
- Achievements that you are proud of (key events during your work or study. Could be awards or promotions, or even just making improvements to a work process or helping a new staff member at work)
Step Two
Using the list you have created, highlight work experiences that directly relate to the field of employment or industry you want to work in.

When considering your work experience, don’t forget to include all experience, including unpaid, voluntary and temporary work. Highlight any that directly relate to the field of employment or industry you want to work in.
