Module 4 - Career Planning
Unit 8: Implementing Your Career Plan
Using Your Self-Assessment
Finding your first job after university can be an exciting task if you have good resources available and take the time to use them.
Can you complete the following tasks?
- Understand your personal traits and relate them to your career choices.
- Define your personal values.
- Determine your economic needs.
- Articulate your longer-term goals.
- Understand your general and specific skill base.
- Recognise your preferred skills.
- Express a willingness to improve on your underdeveloped skills.
If you can, you have a career plan! You know what motivates and interests you, what skills you possess and what careers and/or positions might be compatible with these.
However, the process is not over! The final step is to set yourself some goals. What do you need to do to make your dream a reality? Prepare an action plan that lists the steps you need to take to achieve your goals in the short, medium or long -term and how you plan to achieve them. Set yourself some deadlines. List possible constraints/barriers and how you could overcome them. Consider the resources you may call upon; remember the other career modules on job search, resumes and interviews.
Congratulations! You're on your way.
