Estimating Your Economic Needs

We all have needs that we consider basic. This most obviously includes food and shelter, but may also include a mobile phone, a computer or a car.

When undertaking a self-assessment, it is important to recognise what these basic needs are, and therefore what salary is necessary to maintain your preferred standards of living.

Of course, this does not necessarily mean that a poorly paid position is not suitable; it may be the best way into your profession. However, recognising your economic needs allows you to gain a greater understanding of which career fulfils you most.
