Thirty years ago, leadership implied outcomes, management by objectives, fifteen years ago it was about quality management, how to manage intellectual property. Now references are to "imaginative capital, dialogue, "not yet enacted realities and inverted leadership. Leaders now have to think forward in time, creating something not seen before.
Tools now are about inverted leadership (25 year olds leading 47 year olds as the 47 year olds are past it!) At the same time leaders are challenged to adhere to long established management disciplines of controlling processes and outcomes as much as possible.
