The Australian Association of Graduate Employers' survey found that graduate vacancies in 2006 have increased by 13%, compared with 2005. In particular accountancy recorded the biggest change with a 22% increase.

Companies can solve the current problem of skill shortages that they are facing by hiring graduates that are readily available and training them quickly.

The starting salaries for graduates vary quite significantly depending on whether the industry they're entering is competitive or if it is facing skill shortages.

However, overall employers have rated recent graduates highly for their attitudes and commitment to their careers.
