Although the government and investors have poured millions of dollars into Australia's IT sector, it is still staggering further and further behind. In fact we have not produced one IT company large enough to be a global force.
This can be attributed to the Federal governments stalled support. Pouring money into existing programmes is having limited results.
An ICT (information and communication technology) advisory committee had been established by the government which in theory sounds very promising. However, it had met only three times and failed to produce a single report.
The technology industry itself also has opinions on how to resolve the current dire situation facing the industry. The reports being produced detail changes that aren't costly, yet seem to be too tough politically to warrant a mention.
Also nationwide tertiary enrolments over the past two years have fallen by 40%.
The problems in this sector are well documented, but so are the solutions.
