Australia needs to stop sideling its ageing workforce according to a recent report from the National Centre for Social and Economic Modelling (NATSEM). The report showed that there are an increasing number of women shifting from full-time to part-time work due to combining their work and family lives.
The report also showed that full-time positions are up 30% over the past 20 years whereas part-time positions are up by 136%. This can be attributed to younger people staying in education longer. People with tertiary qualifications have in fact obtaining 70% of the new jobs created between 1990 and 2003.
It is expected that the unemployment levels will drop as job ads increased by 20% in January 2006.
