Westpac is making some huge changes to their work culture in the hope that it will become more mobile. By shifting 5000 employees into one building managers will be trained in a new style of supervision, one that will enable a team to not necessarily be in the one place. This was decided after it was recognised that only 40% of a worker's day was spent at their desk.
Westpac have also set up three internal cafes in the hope that they will be used for work from either teams or individuals.
Executives are being encouraged to mix by chairs and tables being placed near the stairs and kitchens in the hope that people will bump into each other when moving between floors. Also only 6 executives have been allocated offices.
To further increase mobility Westpac aims to keep a 5% desk vacancy.
