A cadetship program is being offered by Monash University and Sales Cadetship Holdings. The program accepts about 35 graduates annually and almost all participants secure jobs with media firms.
The course is eligible for government loan scheme, FEE HELP or an upfront fee of $8500 to $9000.
The Media Sales Cadetship manager Mr Spears warns that signing up for the course doesn't mean that 'people have to work to win a placement.' An interview is conducted and candidates must prove to employers that they'll be an asset.
One of the previous graduates Ms Augoustakis explains that after completing the course new doors were opened for her that would have otherwise remained closed. Another benefit is that the course dismisses the need to have contacts in the media industry which is how entry level positions have previously worked.
Sales Cadetship Holdings is hoping to repeat the success of the program with its new pharmaceutical sales program. The graduate certificate course is offered through Monash's Parkville campus and Mr Spears believes that the program is a good, solid model and that it's a shame that more industries don't have it.
