The tightening market is having an impact on starting salaries. The average starting salary for an engineering graduate rose from $41,842 in 2004 to $44,486 in 2005, up 6.3%. Mining engineers expereienced the highest pay jump. Electronic engineers had an average commencing salary of $42,682.

The number of female engineers continues to grow. Nearly 27% of graduates were female.
