The number of farms has declined dramatically in the 20 years to 2002-2003, down by almost 25%. The area of land used for farming has declined by 9%, the number of small farms (less than 500 hectares) has declined, the number of medium farms has increased. Overall, 10% of farms produce more than 50% of output and the smallest 50% produce less than 10% of the output.
