It is not enough now for employers to offer high salaries to attract the best candidates. Some graduates will knock back highter salaries for perceived benefits in the type of role and training offered elsewhere. Graduates know that they can get the money further down the track. The AAGE (Australian Association of Graduate Employers)says that the average starting salary has increased nearly 10% on the previous year to $47,801.
Vacation work and internships are more common. Other marketing techniques include specialist websites, sponsorship of university curiculum and open days at firms.Deloitte Australia said that 80% of the vacationers have been accepted into the graduate program.
At Ernst and Young, graduates attend a week long induction and later in the year an off-site graduate program. They are buddied with a second year graduate and mentored by a more senior staff member.
