In the research, half the people surveyed indicated that they definitely intended rteturning to Australia; another 16% were undecided. Working holidays by young Australians are more than just rtites of passage; they are introductions to the global market. Most surveyed did not focus on Australia's deficienceies but rather on the opportunities elsewhere. Another reason was the global scope of their responsibilities.

Asked what was required to succeed overseas, expats nominated soft skills such as curiosity about new ideas, flexibility and an ability to work in unfamiliar situations. Language skills are a bonus.
